Thomas Paine SaysWe have it in our power to begin the world over again. |
Our Republic needs more and better Democrats. Americans have decided that the conservative government of George W. Bush needs to be forcefully opposed. Yet, most of the Democratic Party leadership has managed to ignore the mandate for change which the public gave to them. These cowards capitulate pointlessly to a loathed President and allow a criminally corrupted Republican Party to continue to call the shots in Washington. Their continued failure to fight, truly fight for liberal principles will result in worse anger at their betrayal, worse apathy in our Democratic process, and another 8 years of Republican corruption. For this reason, I've decided to document their atrocities. In 1776 I said, "Lead, Follow, or Get Out of the Way." In 2008 we don't need anymore followers. Lead boldly, or, for the sake of our great Nation, please get the hell out of the way. Moderation in temper is always a virtue; but moderation in principle is always a vice. |

My favortite section of Dodd's
In 2002, we took the president's word and voted to go to war on faulty intelligence. What if we took his word again—and found, next year or the year after, that we had blindly legalized grave crimes?
If this disastrous war has taught us anything, it is that the Senate must never again stack such a momentous decision on such a weak foundation of fact. The decision we're asked to make today is not, of course, as immense. But between fact and decision, the disproportion is just as huge.
So I rise in determined opposition to this unprecedented immunity and all that it represents. I have served in this body for more than a quarter-century. I have spoken from this desk hundreds and hundreds of times. I have rarely come to the floor with such anger.
But since I came to Washington, I have seen six presidents sit in the White House—and I have never seen a contempt for the rule of law equal to this. Today I have reached a breaking point. Today my disgust has found its limit.
I don't expect every one of my colleagues to share that disgust, or that limit. I wish they did—but had that been the case, we would never have come to this point.
I only ask them to believe me when I say if I did not speak today, my conscience would not let me rest.
This is Real Leadership
As an Independent voter, there have been two presidential candidates that have caught my attention and at this point, would have had my vote. In order of preference, I have been impressed by and willing to vote for Ron Paul and Barack Obama. Because the media has clearly avoided giving Ron Paul any publicity or even acknowledgement that he is a serious contender, I was forced to pick a second choice.
Well, after all the talk about earning our support and working hard for America, I am now finding myself discarding both of my prior choices in favor of Senator Dodd. His decision to return to Washington D.C. and fight this administration's attempt to thwart the Constitution AGAIN has impressed me beyond words. This is what leadership and good jugement is about. This had to be a difficult decision for the Senator. But he chose US over his own political aspirations and stood alone (among the candidates) as he forced the sellouts of our country into retreat.
I will be looking closer at Senator Dodd, but it's hard to ignore an act as patriotic and selfless as this. The other candidates now share the same distinction with each other that Senator Dodd does not share. They are all just politicians that are long on talk and short on action.
BRAVO SENATOR DODD...BRAVO!
Giving credit where credit is due
Senator Dodd deserves credit for his leadership role. He heard the outcry from the people and took the appropriate actions. He changed what would have been a foregone conclusion.
Senator Dodd, THANK YOU!!
Where Have All the Patriots Gone?
Patriotism is an overused word these days. It's the "post 9/11" battle cry for those that fly an American flag, put a 99 cent sticker on their car, or blindly follow an inept and arguably the most corrupt administration in American history.
This week there was a glimmer of light from the halls of Congress. A Senator running for President, put his campaigning on hold to return to Washington and stand on the Floor of the Senate to fight for America. When Chris Dodd made that decision and fought that fight, he was not only fighting a corrupt and out of control president but his own "leader" in the Senate, Harry Reid.
Maybe this is why there has been no Impeachment proceedings. Maybe this is why the "hope" for America's future has eluded me.
Senator Dodd is one man but he ACTED when others just talked. He showed us all what sound judgment really is and what patriotism and leadership is.
We need more patriots like Senator Dodd in Congress and the White House and we will only get them when the American people learn what real patriotism is and votes for people that truly represent them, and not just a "party" in Congress.
